Policies

Library Cards

  • You must present a card in good standing in order to check out materials.
  • The library card must be used by the person named on the card, as determined by the library staff.
  • You or your parent/guardian must show proof of current address to receive a library card.
  • You must be at least 5 years old to receive a card.
  • Any child under 18 years of age (or not yet in high school) must have his/ her application signed by a parent or guardian.
  • There is a $2 replacement fee for lost cards. Damage cards are replaced for free.

Borrowing Policies

  • As a member of Evergreen Indiana, all circulation policies of Evergreen Indiana apply to Huntingburg Public Library. See the Evergreen Indiana Circulation Policy.
  • Most materials are loaned for 21 days. Magazines are loaned for 7 days. Video materials are loaned for 7 days.
  • Most items may be renewed one time in person, online or by phone. Videos may not be renewed. Items on reserve for another patron may not be renewed.
  • All material returned in the drop box before opening will be checked in as though returned the previous day.
  • If the material you need is already checked out, the staff will be happy to place a reserve on it for you. You may place your own holds at the public access catalogs in the library or online at the library’s website. You will be notified when the material becomes available.
  • If the Huntingburg Library does not own a copy of the material you need and you cannot locate a copy through Evergreen Indiana, we may be able to borrow it through Interlibrary Loan for you. There is usually little or no cost for this service.

Computers

  • Computers are currently available for public use. All have Internet and printer connections.
  • Because the library has no control over Internet sources, the library is not responsible for content or information retrieved over the Internet.
  • A minor’s access to the Internet remains the responsibility of the parent/guardian. Any patron under 18 must have a parental permission form on file in order to access the Internet.
  • Library resources may not be used for illegal or for unethical purposes. Chat rooms and pornography are prohibited. Violators will lose all computer privileges.
  • You may use a computer for one hour a day.
  • You may not have food or drink at any computer station.
  • You may purchase ear buds for $1.00
  • All computer stations and copy/fax machines close 15 minutes before the library closes.

Print/Copy/Fax/Scanner Fees

  • Printing of library materials are subject to the following charges:
    • Black & White — $0.10 per page
    • Color — $0.50 per page
  • Staff assisted custom copying requests are limited to 20 pages daily and are subject to the following charges:
    • Black & White — $0.50 per page
    • Color — $1.00 per page
  • Faxes are $1 per page.
  • Scans are $1.00 for the 1st page, $0.25 for each additional page.
  • The library can assist in making change as needed for public prints, fines, faxes and/or use of the copy machine. A very small amount of money is kept for making change, and therefore $20 bills cannot be accepted. Coins, $1, $5, & $10 bills will be accepted.

Memorial Gifts & Donations

  • Gifts in memory or in honor of a loved one or friend are welcome. Staff will select materials and place a commemorative plate in each item.
  • Memorial contributions may also be made to any special program fund.
  • The library will acknowledge, in writing, receipt of all gifts.
  • Books, audio books and movies in good condition may be donated to the library, with the understanding that the gift becomes the property of the library and is subject to disposition at the library’s discretion.
  • As recipient of the gift, the library will not assign a monetary value to that gift.

Fines and Fees

  • You are responsible for all items checked out on your library card.
  • All items incur a fine of $0.25 per day. No fines are levied for days when the library is closed.
  • You will be charged for items that are lost or damaged. These fees are used to replace or repair the lost/damaged materials.
  • A patron’s access to materials and computers may be limited due to overdue materials or fines and fees. A patron’s card will be blocked, and no circulation services or computer use may be obtained with it if the patron has 15 or more overdue items or owes $10.00 or more in unpaid fines and/or fees. Huntingburg Public Library is a member of the Evergreen consortium and we honor blocks on patron accounts from member libraries.

Library Conduct

  • Loud, disruptive or offensive behavior will not be tolerated at the library.
  • Solicitation is not allowed on library property.
